SAVE THE DATE: The MAX Diversity Film Festival is coming!
The platform to participate at the MAX Diversity film festival (DFF) will be launched on May 28!
The debate on migration often occupies the front pages of newspapers and is the subject of intense political debates, where the whole truth behind this phenomenon is often not reflected and, above all, where not enough space and voice are given to the very different stories and realities behind it.
The online MAX Diversity film festival (MAXDFF) is an event created by the MAX project and coordinated by the partner AEIDL, whose aim is to change the narrative around migration by training, researching and communicating not only figures and facts but also putting on the front the stories of real people. One of our key objectives is to create more spaces, both online and physical, to promote encounters among native-born citizens and newcomers to interact, share experiences and have joint debates.
The MAXDDF competition and award will take place over several months in 2021. After a call for participants and preselection by a jury during the Spring-Summer period, the public will be able to watch the film selection through an online platform and vote for their favourite one per category in October. After the voting, MAXDFF will announce the winners during an Award ceremony taking place in November, which will count with the testimonials and experiences of the film makers, the members of the jury and other keynote speakers.
The film festival is a unique opportunity to celebrate diversity in Europe, present previews of films or a selection of movies little known to the public and contribute to the creation of an evidence-based debate and narrative about migration through storytelling.
Why you should participate and support this initiative
- Are you an amateur or professional filmmaker[1]? The MAXDFF is an open event free of charge whose main goal is to give filmmakers a platform to disseminate their work, embrace and celebrate diversity and to raise awareness about the very different stories, realities, challenges and opportunities around migration. Your work will be reviewed by a selected jury of experts, disseminated to a large audience and receive international recognition. In addition, you will opt for one of our MAXDFF Awards! Check out the conditions to participate, get ready and start to submit your materials here from May 28 to August 20 here https://filmfreeway.com/MAXDiversityFilmFestival
- Are you an organisation or initiative supporting culture, diversity, social inclusion or multiculturalism in Europe? Please support us by spreading the word about MAXDFF with your network! Faced with the rise of xenophobic and anti-migrant discourses, we all play a very important role in informing and shaping perceptions. Therefore, we invite you to join us to counteract negative attitudes and behaviours towards migrants, creating awareness about the risks or situations of human rights violations and many other difficulties they face, as well as recognising the contribution that diversity has in our current societies and the active role that individuals and groups of different ethnic, cultural or racial minorities play in local development
Thank you for raising awareness of the power of diversity and empowering people to share their stories!

[1] In the context of the MAXDFF competition, we understand amateur filmmakers as being those for whom filmmaking is a hobby or part of their studies and who do not earn their main income from filmmaking. Filmmakers whose previous film productions have never won an award at another film festival can also compete in this category. ON the other hand, we understand professional filmmakers as being those for whom filmmaking is the main part of their professional activities or whose previous film productions have been selected for inclusion in other film festivals. Submitters will be required to participate in the category they acknowledge they should participate.
