The Italian DDF, “Education and integration: creating a more inclusive society in Italy”, organised by Consorzio Communitas, took place online on 22 February 2021.

Italian and English interpretation was available to allow both Italian and international audiences to attend the event!

In Italy, more than 3.6 million Third Country Nationals are residents in the country, representing approximately 6% of the total population. The largest foreign communities are Albanians (8.4%), and Moroccans (8%). The educational system plays a crucial role in the integration of migrants. In the 2017/2018 school year, there were 841,719 foreign students in Italian schools (9.7% of the total school population), an increase of 16,000 compared to the previous school year.

With the webinar, we aimed at having a joint discussion to learn how migration can benefit the socio-economic development of our European societies in general and Italian cities in particular, and how better tailored vocational, education, and training programs can tackle some of the existing barriers to creating more inclusive and prosperous societies.

We are witnessing important changes in our society: The covid-19 outbreak has demonstrated that the foundation of our way of life was built on clay and that there is the need to accelerate the process toward a more sustainable and inclusive society.

These transitions will inevitably reflect on the job market and the Italian Diversity Dialogue Fora could be an opportunity to reflect on how these changes could affect immigrant workers, especially the ones with weak permission of stay and low skills and to showcase some ideas and proposals to reduce the risk of exchanging personal rights for a contract.

The Italian DDF, “HOW TO CHANGE – Migrant work between emergency, changes and rights”, organised by Legacoopsociali was held online on 20 and 21 May 2021. The Italian DDF discussed the working scenarios for immigrants in the light of what is happening and will happen (COVID and post COVID, Next Generation EU, etc.)
